Why is digital radiology needed in dentistry?Digital radiology equipment is one of the most critical elements in the diagnosis of a wide range of treatments such as orthodontics, oral surgeries and maxillofacial surgeries, implantology, wisdom tooth removals, sleep apnoea, anti-aging treatments, periodontics, endodontics and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders among several others.
3D Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT)For example, your dental implants and orthodontic treatments are all planned, assessed and designed using the 3D Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) module from our Planmeca ProMax 3D.
3D Cone Beam Volumetric Tomography (CBVT) and Orthopantomogram (OPG)Your molar removals are planned using the 3D Cone Beam Volumetric Tomography (CBVT) module without the need to scan outside the areas of concern. In addition, we use our Orthopantomogram (OPG) module to obtain a full 2D panoramic view of your mouth, teeth and upper and lower jaws to assess and plan wisdom tooth removals in particular when the tooth is close proximity to the neurovascular bundle (or nerve in the lower jaw) and nerves in the tongue. We have the expertise and technology to achieve successful results in this type of surgeries.
We also use our panoramic views to diagnose decays, periapical pathologies, dental and oseo anomalies and densities, identify and diagnose cysts or tumours, dental malformations and impacted teeth among several other diagnosis.
Maxillary SinusThe Sinus radiology module allows us to see the anatomy of the maxillary sinus in the diagnosis and pathology of potential cysts and polypus (abnormal growths) within the maxillary sinus.
Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ)Our Temporomandibular Join (the TMJ connects the lower jaw with the skull) module is a critical tool in the diagnosis and analysis of TMJ disorders, for example when you experience pain in the muscles around the TMJ or feel a clicking sound opening your mouth or have limited movement of the jaw. With the 3D Cone Beam Computed Tomography and the TMJ module we obtain 3D images of your entire skull to evaluate the symmetry of the jaw, the dental structure and the maxillary sinuses and identify options available to treat your diagnosis.
Bitewing and Periapical ImagingOur surgery rooms have also been provided with radiology imaging capable of taking radiology images of a particular area of concern in your mouth (also known as bitewings or periapicals) whilst you are sitting in our dental chair. These single images are used in a wide range of studies, for example, for assessment and diagnosis of localised areas of tooth decays.
