Advanced 3D Imaging With CBCT Scans in Miranda
What is a CBCT scan?
Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) is an advanced dental imaging technique that creates a 3D image of your teeth, jaw, soft tissue, and nerve pathways—all in a single, quick scan. This non-invasive technology allows for more accurate diagnoses and detailed treatment planning compared to traditional 2D x-rays.
When is a CBCT Scan Recommended?
Your dentist may recommend a CBCT scan when more detailed information is needed for diagnosis or treatment. At our Miranda clinic, we commonly use CBCT imaging to assist with:
General dental diagnostics
Root canal (endodontic) diagnosis
Complex treatment planning
Airway and sinus assessments
TMJ (temporomandibular joint) evaluation
Orthodontic assessments and planning
What to expect during your scan
CBCT scans require no special preparation.
Before your scan:
You’ll be asked to remove any metal items such as glasses, earrings, or necklaces.
During your scan:
You’ll be positioned comfortably while the machine rotates around your head.
The scan takes approximately 15 seconds and is completely painless.
The result? A high-resolution 3D image that helps your dentist plan more precisely and treat more effectively.
Why CBCT is an essential part of modern dentistry
With CBCT technology, we can:
Detect issues that may not appear on standard x-rays
Minimise guesswork in treatment planning
Reduce invasive procedures
Improve surgical outcomes and patient safety
CBCT scan FAQs
How long does the scan take?
The scan itself takes only about a minute or so. But you should plan for about a 20 minute visit in order to take preparation and positioning into account.
Why is a dental cone beam CT required?
Typically, a CBCT scan is only required when a traditional dental x-ray is not suitable or sufficient. This could be when information is needed to help with diagnosis, for treatment planning and for evaluation of certain conditions.
